Patricia Evelyn Knatz Memorial Scholarship Fund
Patricia Evelyn Knatz was an educator for over 30 years. She began by teaching elementary school in Los Angeles for over 20 years and then transitioned into an administrative position as a literacy coach for Los Angeles Unified School District. She was passionate about education, the arts, literacy and languages. She was a voracious reader and spoke three languages.
Mrs. Knatz became interested in the Children’s Foundation of America when her daughter, Christina Jackson, started getting involved. Mrs. Knatz and her daughter began volunteering and Christina joined the board of trustees. Mrs. Knatz looked forward to shopping for the foster youth every Christmas and Easter and was particularly interested when she heard about the Foundation’s college scholarship program.
Upon Mrs. Knatz’ passing in 2019, her daughter established the Patricia Evelyn Knatz Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mrs. Knatz spent her life trying to help others and we feel a scholarship fund is the most beautiful way to honor legacy—by perpetuation of her love for her students and the power of education.
The scholarship fund assists youth by granting awards of up to $5,000 per year to assist with tuition fees, books, supplies, living expenses and more. The actual award amount is at the Scholarship Committees’ discretion. Applicants for the scholarship must be between 16 and 24 years old, be a current or former Trinity Youth Services client who is successfully completing or successfully completed the program with a positive release, completed high school with a 2.0 grade point average or achieved a GED, is enroll in college or trade school or is working full time and plans to continue their education. Applications are provided to foster youth through Trinity Youth Services’ program.
