Golftoberfest

This year’s theme was “Golftoberfest: The best, wurst golf tournament benefiting trauma-affected children.” The band Oompah Meisters dressed in their finest lederhosen and provided traditional German music for guests to enjoy. Claremont Craft Ales sponsored our “biergarten” lunch complete with bratwurst bar and ice cream from Scoops on Tap ice cream.

TNN sponsored our Helicopter Ball Drop for a chance for participants to win $10,000. Our executive director, Cher Ofstedahl, won with her designated golf ball landing first in the whole, but since she saw that a second ball had also landed in the whole, she offered to donate $5,000 of the winnings to the Foundation and let the next person win the other $5,000. Linh Trieu, of Trinity Youth Services, was volunteering that day and was the lucky golf ball winner for the remaining $5,000.

Afterward, golfers got to participate in a putting contest then headed out to the course where Buca di Beppo was serving tiramisu tastings for guests. John Elway’s Claremont Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram provided an opportunity to win a car for a hole in one, although no one achieved that feat this year.

Proceeding with the evening, guests gathered in the South Hills Country Club banquet hall for a German-style dinner including Sauerbraten, Schnitzel, potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, green salad with mustard vinaigrette and pretzel roll. For dessert, guests indulged in apple strudel and coffee.

And the Winner is…

At the end of dinner, Trinity Youth Services CEO, John Neiuber, and Children’s Foundation of America Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, were our masters of ceremonies. They began by awarding raffle prizes. Packages included a full trip to San Francisco, $500 The Diamond Center gift certificate, $500 Amazon gift card, Palm Springs weekend getaway, tickets to local Oktoberfests, Los Angeles museum package, San Diego package and so much more donated by generous companies helping to raise funds for children in need.

As for the tournament, the HUB International/Kaiser Permanente team took 3rd place (Bob DeValle, Nick Orosco, and Dr. Raju), guests of the CEO (Collin Boldig, Mike Aday, Tony Marquez, and Bob Boldig) won 2nd place, and 1st place was awarded to team Image Source (Kevin Mink, Jordan Craft, Craig Lyneis, and Kevin Morse).

We are so grateful to everyone who participated and supported children in need at our 2018 Trinity Classic golf tournament and fundraiser. The work we do would not be possible without our generous sponsors, volunteers, business partners and individual supporters. You are all winners in our book! Thank you for being the difference for children in need. Together, we raised $130,000 for children in foster care and residential programs at Trinity Youth Services.

Trinity Classic Raises over $105,000 to Support Children in Need

The Children’s Foundation of America hosted the Trinity Classic Golf Tournament on October 23, raising over $105,000 for children in need for the second consecutive year. HUB International presented the 2017 Trinity Classic, contributing $80,000 in support of the event.

Approximately 150 supporters teed-off for a cause at South Hills Country Club in West Covina. Each year, the Trinity Classic features golfing, raffles, and a chance to win $10,000 at a helicopter ball drop.  Supporters participated in a day of purposeful play and enjoyed the tournament theme, “Fiesta ‘Fore’ a Better Future,” which featured a mariachi band serenade, an all you can eat taco lunch and a Mexican dinner buffet.

“The funds from today’s purposeful play help to ensure that children from even the most traumatic circumstances receive everything they need to succeed,” said Children’s Foundation of America’s Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, to participants. All proceeds from the Trinity Classic went to CFA partner Trinity Youth Services to support children who have faced the trauma of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Winners of the 2017 Trinity Classic

The tournament’s 1st Place went to the team from Image Source, one of the Foundation’s generous partners, with 2nd Place taken by the team from partner, Sysco Riverside, and the team from presenting sponsor, HUB International, came in 3rd Place.

The golf tournament was just one way to win, as an additional 24 winners received prizes that took them on vacations throughout California. One prize included a trip to local island paradise Catalina, while the other prizes whisked winners off to cultural hub San Francisco or on a tour to sample the wines of Northern California’s award-winning vineyards.

One of the most exciting events of the Trinity Classic was  the helicopter ball drop, which drops a bucket of numbered golf balls onto the green. The ball closest to the hole wins and its owner receives a $10,000 grand prize. This year’s winner, Gil Quinbar, is the Campus Director of Trinity Youth Services Yucaipa, and he immediately donated half of his winnings back to Trinity Youth Services.

Trinity Classic 2016 Golf Tournament Raises Over $100,000 for Children in Need

Trinity Classic

Trinity Classic 2016 golf tournament was a huge success netting over $100,000 in funds raised for children in need. Through tournament ticket sales, raffle ticket sales, golf ball drop contest and general donations, the Children’s Foundation of America raised funds to aid Trinity Youth Services’ programs and to further advance transitional programs for youth after foster care and residential treatment.

Our partners at Trinity Youth Services help trauma-affected youth through foster care, adoption, residential treatment and mental health services in Southern California and Houston, Texas. The Children’s Foundation of America is honored to help their mission by hosting fundraising events like Trinity Classic to benefit the children in their care.

Trinity Classic

This year, the annual event took place on September 12, 2016 at South Hills Country Club in West Covina. Nearly 150 attendees checked in to the registration table, where Trinity Youth Services employees volunteered in greeting guests. Children’s Foundation of America Executive Director and Trinity Youth Services Chief Administrative Officer, Cher Ofstedahl, handed out champagne to toast to Trinity Youth Services’ 50th anniversary as guests posed for a red carpet-style photo.

Trinity Classic

Golfers checked their bags, enjoyed continental breakfast on the patio overlooking the golf course then gathered for an impressive contest: the helicopter ball drop. Guests who entered the contest got a golf ball in their name placed into a large bucket. The golf balls were dropped over a golf hole from the helicopter and the ball closest to the hole won $10,000. Kevin Mink of Image Source was announced the lucky winner and, in support of the cause, declared he would donate half his prize back to the Children’s Foundation of America.

As the helicopter circled overhead and exited the course, golfers hopped into their golf carts and began the tournament. Throughout the course were tastings including Buca di Beppo and Iconic Protein. Additionally, a drink cart traveled the course ensuring no one was thirsty and, midday, guests were treated to a boxed lunch.

Trinity Classic

After a full day of golfing, guests gathered at the club house for cocktail hour followed by a buffet dinner of roasted vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, lemon herb chicken in cream sauce and charbroiled Black Angus steak with forest mushroom demi-glace. Dessert included an array of cakes to choose from including tiramisu and chocolate cake.

As guests took their seats in the banquet hall, Trinity Youth Services CEO, John Neiuber, shared about the important youth programs conducted over the last 50 years and the impact Trinity has made in the lives of over 60,000 children.

Trinity Classic

Children’s Foundation of America Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, then took the podium to announce the “Shopping by Chance” winners. Guests took out their raffle tickets and waited in anticipation for their number to be called. With prizes like trips to New York, New Orleans, Catalina, San Francisco, Orange County, San Diego and Palm Springs and packages like “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “Drone,” “Music Lovers,” “Braces” and “Smart TV,” guests had the opportunity to win big. All prizes were provided by generous businesses to help the Foundation raise funds for children.

The winners from the tournament also were announced at the banquet. Tournament first place went to Martin Cichocki, Hiram Rivera-Toro and Jeff Madden. Second place was awarded to Kevin Mink, Jordan Craft, Judith Jarvis and Matt Daniels. Third place was awarded to Mike Ofstedahl, Steve Ofstedahl, Shawn Fitz and Andre Chartrand. Trinity Classic Golfer Wins $10K, Intends to Donate Half Back

Kevin Mink

The Children’s Foundation of America hosts the annual Trinity Classic golf tournament and, this year, offered something really exciting: a chance to win $10,000!

On September 12, 2016, 100 participants at South Hills Country Club entered into the Helicopter Golf Ball drop, but only the ball closest to the hole would win. A bucket full of golf balls was dumped from a helicopter and ball number 30, belonging to Kevin Mink of Image Source, won.

Upon hearing the news, our winner shouted out that he would donate half back to the Children’s Foundation of America. Way to Be the Difference, Kevin! Thank you.
