Getting Back into the Swing of Things: Trinity Classic 2021

Anthony Chiappetta

The day started with coffee provided by Starbucks and a putting contest on the green at beautiful Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga. On September 20, 2021 supporters of the Children’s Foundation of America gathered for a day of purposeful play. The outing was most welcome after a year of continued lockdowns and closures in an effort to mitigate exposure to COVID 19 in California. This year’s event was more relaxed with the availability of a vaccine and lifted restrictions. Our team, however, continued to be overly cautious and kept all activities outdoors.

At 11 a.m., the exciting Helicopter Golf Ball Drop sponsored by AMC Modern IT commenced. Two golf balls landed in the hole giving us two winners for this year’s contest: Kevin Mink and Sharon Nagel. Both have committed to donating half back to the cause.

Kevin Mink

Kevin, who is also this year’s event chair, shared a few words and introduced Ron Pue, representing presenting sponsor, HUB International Insurance. The two kicked off the tournament filled with wonderful activities like golf challenges, tastings on the course, and a chance to win a car sponsored by Glendora Chevrolet. Sysco Riverside sponsored our swag bags filled with snacks and other conveniences for a warm, summer day, like baseball caps provided by Image Source.

After the tournament, guests were invited to an awards reception with dinner provided by In-N-Out Burger and live swing music by the Riverside Concert Band. A big thank you to VMA Communications for sponsoring the entertainment.

Riverside Concert Band

Next, we handed out trophies to our our tournament winners: Robert Woodman won our putting contest. First place went to Willie Buchanon, Pete Shaw, William Tucker, and Joseph Battaglia. Second place was Kevin Mink, Matthew Ringel, Chris Starling, and Jordan Craft. Third place went to Sin Ku, Joseph Chan, Michael Ofstedahl, and Adam Russell.

We gave out raffle prizes and conducted a live auction led by Willie Buchanon, a first-round draft pick for the Green Bay Packers and 7th overall pick. He later played for the San Diego Chargers, becoming a two-time Pro Bowl player. After finishing 11 years in the NFL, he was named to the Packers Hall of Fame and the San Diego Hall of Champions. Mr. Buchanon was a lot of fun and full of energy auctioning off incredible packages like a Vegas trip and tickets to upcoming Kings and Clippers games.

Willie Buchanon

Through this fundraising event, the Children’s Foundation of America raised $125,000 benefiting children in need. These funds are essential in providing support to thousands of trauma-affected children so they may heal, learn, and thrive. From scholarships, to a chance to participate in sports and school activities, as well as tools for therapy for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment — your help matters!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s event. Every purchase of raffle tickets and player packages makes a significant and lasting difference. Thank you also to our incredible volunteers for putting on a truly fantastic event. See you all next year!

And We Have a Winner! Event Raises Money for Children in Foster Care and More

Kevin Mink

Children’s Foundation of America CEO Cher Ofstedahl embraced Kevin Mink of Image Source in a celebratory hug after he was announced as one of two winners of the $10,000 prize at the annual Trinity Classic Golf at Red Hill Country Club on Monday. The annual golf tournament benefits children affected by abuse, neglect and abandonment, particularly those in foster care. The event is named after the Claremont-based foster and adoptions agency, Trinity Youth Services, which has been helping to create a better future for children and families since 1966.

A helicopter golf ball drop hosted by AMC Modern IT offered participants a chance to win $10,000 by making donations in exchange for golf ball entries. The numbered balls were placed into a basket then dropped from a helicopter over one of the holes. This year, two golf balls landed in the hole, numbers 71 and 115, belonging to Kevin Mink and Claremont resident Sharon Nagel. The cash prize was split between the two, who both committed to donating half of their winnings back to the charity. The tradition of donating contest winnings back to the charity began with Mr. Mink when he won in 2016. Ever since, each winner has donated a portion back to the cause.

The Children’s Foundation of America is a Claremont nonprofit organization, which identifies and accesses resources for children in need and “provides an opportunity for every person to help children heal, learn and thrive.” Each year, the foundation bestows over $50,000 in scholarships, and serves more than 2,000 children in Southern California with care packages and conducts volunteer opportunities for hundreds of local volunteers. Trinity Classic 2020 Raises Hopes & Funds During Pandemic

Trinity Classic 2020

The annual Trinity Classic Golf Tournament and Fundraiser presented by HUB International Insurance looked a little different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that didn’t stop golfers from getting outdoors, supporting a good cause and having a great time!

Our organization is fortunate to have an annual outdoor fundraising event and to have the support of our incredible network of sponsors, golfers and business partners. Even with social distancing, we managed to have a fantastic day and raised much needed funds for children in foster care, residential treatment and mental health programs.

Golf Committee Chair, Danny Keshishian, said, “I think people are excited to just get out and do something, especially something outside and for a good cause.”

Trinity Classic Staff

The 2020 Trinity Classic was held at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga on September 28. Out of an abundance of caution, we limited registration to 80 golfers, a plastic divider was placed between seats on golf carts and all activities were held outside.

Tee times were staggered, as were putting contest times and registration. This reduced clustering of people during the event for their safety. During the tournament, volunteers conducted golf challenges to raise additional funds. In total, we had 21 volunteers contributing 122 hours to the event and we are so grateful to each and every one of them!

Jed Leano

Mountain View Chevrolet provided our hole in one car and displayed several show cars at the country club. Starbucks donated coffee for registration and Party Affair contributed balloon decorations. On the golf course were tastings from Gumbo Girls, Sazerac, J&J BBQ and Fish, Citrus Grove Distillers and cigars provided by King Smokes and Vapes.

As the tournament came to an end, the In-N-Out food truck began to serve meals to golfers. Thank you so much to the In-N-Out Foundation for donating meals for all our guests! Additionally, dessert was provided by I Like Pie Bakeshop.

Amaro Helicopters

After everyone had their fill of burgers and pie, Amaro Helicopters flew by with our Golf Ball Drop entries and poured our bucket of 200 golf balls over a golf hole for a lucky winner to win $10,000! Tony Chiappetta, of AMC Solutions had the honor of pulling the ball and his wife Marissa, announced the winner from the scoreboard. Their kids Roman (9) and Rocco (10) got it from point A to point B quicker than a flash of light! The lucky ball was number 144, Laura Kassem, Trinity Youth Services’ Rancho Cucamonga Foster Care Office Director. Upon winning the prize, Laura donated $1,000 back to be spent on activities for the foster children.

Trinity Classic Golf Ball Drop

Following the helicopter golf ball drop, CFA staff conducted the awards ceremony to a crowd scattered on the back lawn of the country club. HUB International Insurance, AMC Solutions, Image Source, and Sysco were recognized as our generous top sponsors and the CFA team was recognized for “outstanding achievements during a pandemic,” by CEO, Cher Ofstedahl.

Next were the tournament awards with Jeff Green as our Putting Contest winner, Brandon Danley was our Closest to the Pin Champion at 14 feet, Matt Lollis was our Men’s Longest Drive Champion, and Patricia Ontiveros was our Women’s Longest Drive Champion.

Our First Place tournament winners were Stan Gonzales, Willie Buchanon, Pete Shaw, and Mike Espejo with a score of 55. Second Place went to Kevin Mink, Jordan Craft, Matthew Ringel, and Chris Starling for their score of 58. And Third Place went to Jeff Green, Andrew Landeros, Jed Leano, and Ron Pasillas coming in close with a score of 59.

After the awards were presented we raffled off a few baskets, many of which, Trinity Youth Services Board Member, Judith Jarvis, won and generously donated back to Trinity’s staff for staff recognition.

Judith Jarvis

A good time was had by all, and together, we raised approximately $120,000 for foster youth! Thank you to everyone who participated in our fundraising event and truly making a difference for children in need. We know this year has been challenging for everyone, which made us all the more grateful for the incredible turnout and outpouring of support during these times—especially when the youth need our help more than ever! We are already looking forward to putting together another unforgettable day on the golf course supporting children in need in 2021. We can’t wait to see you there!

Stay tuned for our first ever, Virtual Gala and Online Auction on December 3, 2020.

Trinity Classic Golf Tournament 2019 Raises $130k for Foster Youth

On September 30, 120 golfers gathered for this year’s Trinity Classic Golf Tournament and Fundraiser presented by HUB International. The Children’s Foundation of America raised $130,000 at this year’s event thanks to teams including TNN, Image Source, Sysco, Kaiser Permanente, Sun Life Financial, AMC Solutions, Wells Fargo, VMA, PAASE, Integrity Tech, American Financial Inc., Enterprise, Engrave N’ Embroider Things, and Mountain View Chevrolet all participated in the tournament held at South Hills Country Club in West Covina, CA. Special guests included retired NFL and MLB players as well as radio personalities.

This year’s theme, “Mardi Golf,” really let the good times roll! Golfers started their day off right with the help of our food sponsors. Guests were provided a boxed lunch by The Quarter Creole Restaurant, which contained a Muffuletta sandwich, pasta salad, and the most delicious bread pudding. Additionally, In-N-Out provided their food truck serving up their classic burgers. Live music provided by Dennis G & the Zydeco Riderz set the ambiance for a New Orleans style lunch.

During the putting contest, we brought the bayou to us with an alligator head golf hole, which we turned into a trophy for the awards banquet.

TNN sponsored the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop with a chance for participates to win $100,000! Everyone gathered with anticipation as they waited for the golf ball drop. With much surprise, our retiring Chief Executive Officer, John Neiuber, was the lucky winner and donated half of his winnings back to the Foundation!

Noon was the shotgun start to the tournament. BackSwing Golf provided our golf challenge and Mountain View Chevrolet provided this year’s Hole-in-One Car, giving participates the opportunity to win a Chevy Blazer, although no-one achieved that feat this year. Our French Quarter Tastings throughout the golf course were provided by Vom Fass, Starbucks, Buca di Beppo, J&J Fresh Southern Style Soul food, Mommie Helen’s, Last Name Brewing, Gumbo Girls, Sazerac Co., Nothing Bundt Cake, Miya’s Sweets, and Lovo Cigars.

At the Halfway House, Citrus Grove Distillers served up Hurricanes in commemorative cups while Old School 104.7 spun classic jams. As the golfers completed the tournament, they made their way to the Club House for a scrumptious Cajun buffet including salad, blackened chicken, jambalaya, crab cakes, red beans and rice, collards greens with bacon, cornbread with butter and honey, bread pudding, coffee and tea. Our guest list increased to 200 at dinner and entertainment was provided by the Amanda Castro Band.

After dinner, Foundation Development Specialist, Jenelle Phillips thanked our sponsors particularly our presenting sponsor, HUB International. Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, presented our Shopping by Chance opportunity drawing and Claremont City Council Member, Jed Leano, conducted the live auction. We collected nearly $40,000 worth of prizes generously donated by our supporters. Prizes ranged from tickets to sports events, airfare, private yoga classes, tickets to amusement parks, museum passes, The Diamond Center Gift certificate, spirits tastings, gift cards and much more.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to win the title of Mardi Gras King or Queen, by contributing for the most raffle tickets. Trinity Youth Services board member Valerie Martinez was crowned our Mardi Gras Queen and, as her reward, she was given a crown, chalice, a box of pralines and a platter of beignets for her table to enjoy.

The banquet concluded in our tournament awards. VMA took third place, Image Source took second place, and HUB International won first place!

Whether a big winner or not, our guests supported the foundation in ways that will benefit children in foster care and residential programs at Trinity Youth Services. That certainly makes a winner in our hearts. We thank everyone for their contributions to this year’s Trinity Classic Golf Tournament and Fundraiser. It is an honor to be able to support children in need and we could not have done it without the special help of all our generous and thoughtful sponsors, volunteers, business partners, and individual supporters. Thank you for being the difference.

Golftoberfest

This year’s theme was “Golftoberfest: The best, wurst golf tournament benefiting trauma-affected children.” The band Oompah Meisters dressed in their finest lederhosen and provided traditional German music for guests to enjoy. Claremont Craft Ales sponsored our “biergarten” lunch complete with bratwurst bar and ice cream from Scoops on Tap ice cream.

TNN sponsored our Helicopter Ball Drop for a chance for participants to win $10,000. Our executive director, Cher Ofstedahl, won with her designated golf ball landing first in the whole, but since she saw that a second ball had also landed in the whole, she offered to donate $5,000 of the winnings to the Foundation and let the next person win the other $5,000. Linh Trieu, of Trinity Youth Services, was volunteering that day and was the lucky golf ball winner for the remaining $5,000.

Afterward, golfers got to participate in a putting contest then headed out to the course where Buca di Beppo was serving tiramisu tastings for guests. John Elway’s Claremont Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram provided an opportunity to win a car for a hole in one, although no one achieved that feat this year.

Proceeding with the evening, guests gathered in the South Hills Country Club banquet hall for a German-style dinner including Sauerbraten, Schnitzel, potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, green salad with mustard vinaigrette and pretzel roll. For dessert, guests indulged in apple strudel and coffee.

And the Winner is…

At the end of dinner, Trinity Youth Services CEO, John Neiuber, and Children’s Foundation of America Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, were our masters of ceremonies. They began by awarding raffle prizes. Packages included a full trip to San Francisco, $500 The Diamond Center gift certificate, $500 Amazon gift card, Palm Springs weekend getaway, tickets to local Oktoberfests, Los Angeles museum package, San Diego package and so much more donated by generous companies helping to raise funds for children in need.

As for the tournament, the HUB International/Kaiser Permanente team took 3rd place (Bob DeValle, Nick Orosco, and Dr. Raju), guests of the CEO (Collin Boldig, Mike Aday, Tony Marquez, and Bob Boldig) won 2nd place, and 1st place was awarded to team Image Source (Kevin Mink, Jordan Craft, Craig Lyneis, and Kevin Morse).

We are so grateful to everyone who participated and supported children in need at our 2018 Trinity Classic golf tournament and fundraiser. The work we do would not be possible without our generous sponsors, volunteers, business partners and individual supporters. You are all winners in our book! Thank you for being the difference for children in need. Together, we raised $130,000 for children in foster care and residential programs at Trinity Youth Services.

Trinity Classic Raises over $105,000 to Support Children in Need

The Children’s Foundation of America hosted the Trinity Classic Golf Tournament on October 23, raising over $105,000 for children in need for the second consecutive year. HUB International presented the 2017 Trinity Classic, contributing $80,000 in support of the event.

Approximately 150 supporters teed-off for a cause at South Hills Country Club in West Covina. Each year, the Trinity Classic features golfing, raffles, and a chance to win $10,000 at a helicopter ball drop.  Supporters participated in a day of purposeful play and enjoyed the tournament theme, “Fiesta ‘Fore’ a Better Future,” which featured a mariachi band serenade, an all you can eat taco lunch and a Mexican dinner buffet.

“The funds from today’s purposeful play help to ensure that children from even the most traumatic circumstances receive everything they need to succeed,” said Children’s Foundation of America’s Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, to participants. All proceeds from the Trinity Classic went to CFA partner Trinity Youth Services to support children who have faced the trauma of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Winners of the 2017 Trinity Classic

The tournament’s 1st Place went to the team from Image Source, one of the Foundation’s generous partners, with 2nd Place taken by the team from partner, Sysco Riverside, and the team from presenting sponsor, HUB International, came in 3rd Place.

The golf tournament was just one way to win, as an additional 24 winners received prizes that took them on vacations throughout California. One prize included a trip to local island paradise Catalina, while the other prizes whisked winners off to cultural hub San Francisco or on a tour to sample the wines of Northern California’s award-winning vineyards.

One of the most exciting events of the Trinity Classic was  the helicopter ball drop, which drops a bucket of numbered golf balls onto the green. The ball closest to the hole wins and its owner receives a $10,000 grand prize. This year’s winner, Gil Quinbar, is the Campus Director of Trinity Youth Services Yucaipa, and he immediately donated half of his winnings back to Trinity Youth Services.

Trinity Classic 2016 Golf Tournament Raises Over $100,000 for Children in Need

Trinity Classic

Trinity Classic 2016 golf tournament was a huge success netting over $100,000 in funds raised for children in need. Through tournament ticket sales, raffle ticket sales, golf ball drop contest and general donations, the Children’s Foundation of America raised funds to aid Trinity Youth Services’ programs and to further advance transitional programs for youth after foster care and residential treatment.

Our partners at Trinity Youth Services help trauma-affected youth through foster care, adoption, residential treatment and mental health services in Southern California and Houston, Texas. The Children’s Foundation of America is honored to help their mission by hosting fundraising events like Trinity Classic to benefit the children in their care.

Trinity Classic

This year, the annual event took place on September 12, 2016 at South Hills Country Club in West Covina. Nearly 150 attendees checked in to the registration table, where Trinity Youth Services employees volunteered in greeting guests. Children’s Foundation of America Executive Director and Trinity Youth Services Chief Administrative Officer, Cher Ofstedahl, handed out champagne to toast to Trinity Youth Services’ 50th anniversary as guests posed for a red carpet-style photo.

Trinity Classic

Golfers checked their bags, enjoyed continental breakfast on the patio overlooking the golf course then gathered for an impressive contest: the helicopter ball drop. Guests who entered the contest got a golf ball in their name placed into a large bucket. The golf balls were dropped over a golf hole from the helicopter and the ball closest to the hole won $10,000. Kevin Mink of Image Source was announced the lucky winner and, in support of the cause, declared he would donate half his prize back to the Children’s Foundation of America.

Trinity Classic

As the helicopter circled overhead and exited the course, golfers hopped into their golf carts and began the tournament. Throughout the course were tastings including Buca di Beppo and Iconic Protein. Additionally, a drink cart traveled the course ensuring no one was thirsty and, midday, guests were treated to a boxed lunch.

Trinity Classic

After a full day of golfing, guests gathered at the club house for cocktail hour followed by a buffet dinner of roasted vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes, lemon herb chicken in cream sauce and charbroiled Black Angus steak with forest mushroom demi-glace. Dessert included an array of cakes to choose from including tiramisu and chocolate cake.

As guests took their seats in the banquet hall, Trinity Youth Services CEO, John Neiuber, shared about the important youth programs conducted over the last 50 years and the impact Trinity has made in the lives of over 60,000 children.

Trinity Classic

Children’s Foundation of America Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, then took the podium to announce the “Shopping by Chance” winners. Guests took out their raffle tickets and waited in anticipation for their number to be called. With prizes like trips to New York, New Orleans, Catalina, San Francisco, Orange County, San Diego and Palm Springs and packages like “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “Drone,” “Music Lovers,” “Braces” and “Smart TV,” guests had the opportunity to win big. All prizes were provided by generous businesses to help the Foundation raise funds for children.

Trinity Classic

The winners from the tournament also were announced at the banquet. Tournament first place went to Martin Cichocki, Hiram Rivera-Toro and Jeff Madden. Second place was awarded to Kevin Mink, Jordan Craft, Judith Jarvis and Matt Daniels. Third place was awarded to Mike Ofstedahl, Steve Ofstedahl, Shawn Fitz and Andre Chartrand. Trinity Classic Golfer Wins $10K, Intends to Donate Half Back

Kevin Mink

The Children’s Foundation of America hosts the annual Trinity Classic golf tournament and, this year, offered something really exciting: a chance to win $10,000!

On September 12, 2016, 100 participants at South Hills Country Club entered into the Helicopter Golf Ball drop, but only the ball closest to the hole would win. A bucket full of golf balls was dumped from a helicopter and ball number 30, belonging to Kevin Mink of Image Source, won.

Upon hearing the news, our winner shouted out that he would donate half back to the Children’s Foundation of America. Way to Be the Difference, Kevin! Thank you.
