Trinity Classic Golf Tournament 2019 Raises $130k for Foster Youth

10th of October 2019

On September 30, 120 golfers gathered for this year’s Trinity Classic Golf Tournament and Fundraiser presented by HUB International. The Children’s Foundation of America raised $130,000 at this year’s event thanks to teams including TNN, Image Source, Sysco, Kaiser Permanente, Sun Life Financial, AMC Solutions, Wells Fargo, VMA, PAASE, Integrity Tech, American Financial Inc., Enterprise, Engrave N’ Embroider Things, and Mountain View Chevrolet all participated in the tournament held at South Hills Country Club in West Covina, CA. Special guests included retired NFL and MLB players as well as radio personalities.

This year’s theme, “Mardi Golf,” really let the good times roll! Golfers started their day off right with the help of our food sponsors. Guests were provided a boxed lunch by The Quarter Creole Restaurant, which contained a Muffuletta sandwich, pasta salad, and the most delicious bread pudding. Additionally, In-N-Out provided their food truck serving up their classic burgers. Live music provided by Dennis G & the Zydeco Riderz set the ambiance for a New Orleans style lunch.

During the putting contest, we brought the bayou to us with an alligator head golf hole, which we turned into a trophy for the awards banquet.

TNN sponsored the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop with a chance for participates to win $100,000! Everyone gathered with anticipation as they waited for the golf ball drop. With much surprise, our retiring Chief Executive Officer, John Neiuber, was the lucky winner and donated half of his winnings back to the Foundation!

Noon was the shotgun start to the tournament. BackSwing Golf provided our golf challenge and Mountain View Chevrolet provided this year’s Hole-in-One Car, giving participates the opportunity to win a Chevy Blazer, although no-one achieved that feat this year. Our French Quarter Tastings throughout the golf course were provided by Vom Fass, Starbucks, Buca di Beppo, J&J Fresh Southern Style Soul food, Mommie Helen’s, Last Name Brewing, Gumbo Girls, Sazerac Co., Nothing Bundt Cake, Miya’s Sweets, and Lovo Cigars.

At the Halfway House, Citrus Grove Distillers served up Hurricanes in commemorative cups while Old School 104.7 spun classic jams. As the golfers completed the tournament, they made their way to the Club House for a scrumptious Cajun buffet including salad, blackened chicken, jambalaya, crab cakes, red beans and rice, collards greens with bacon, cornbread with butter and honey, bread pudding, coffee and tea. Our guest list increased to 200 at dinner and entertainment was provided by the Amanda Castro Band.

After dinner, Foundation Development Specialist, Jenelle Phillips thanked our sponsors particularly our presenting sponsor, HUB International. Executive Director, Cher Ofstedahl, presented our Shopping by Chance opportunity drawing and Claremont City Council Member, Jed Leano, conducted the live auction. We collected nearly $40,000 worth of prizes generously donated by our supporters. Prizes ranged from tickets to sports events, airfare, private yoga classes, tickets to amusement parks, museum passes, The Diamond Center Gift certificate, spirits tastings, gift cards and much more.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to win the title of Mardi Gras King or Queen, by contributing for the most raffle tickets. Trinity Youth Services board member Valerie Martinez was crowned our Mardi Gras Queen and, as her reward, she was given a crown, chalice, a box of pralines and a platter of beignets for her table to enjoy.

The banquet concluded in our tournament awards. VMA took third place, Image Source took second place, and HUB International won first place!

Whether a big winner or not, our guests supported the foundation in ways that will benefit children in foster care and residential programs at Trinity Youth Services. That certainly makes a winner in our hearts. We thank everyone for their contributions to this year’s Trinity Classic Golf Tournament and Fundraiser. It is an honor to be able to support children in need and we could not have done it without the special help of all our generous and thoughtful sponsors, volunteers, business partners, and individual supporters. Thank you for being the difference.
