Zayda Literacy Fund

“I remember one of our youths winning this grant. Best moment ever. I cannot rave enough about this helping self-esteem.” -Laurie Bennett, Sr. Supervisor of Social Workers, FFA/Penny Lane Centers

Zayda (babybibliophile) has a following of over 3,000 people on social media who, like her, love books. Only in her teen years, she is an entrepreneur creating her own shirt designs and prints at popup shops and on Etsy.com, she is a Rep for the monthly book subscription OwlCrate Jr., and she is an advocate for children’s literacy.

Zayda hopes to share her love of books with youth who may not have the same access to the fantastic world of literature. She continuously conducts book drives for the Children’s Foundation of America and is now on a mission to raise funds to encourage a passion for literacy among youth in need. The Zayda Literacy Fund grants avid readers in foster care to pursue their imaginative passions and follow their dreams.

Foster youth in California under the age of 18 may apply for a $500 grant and prize gift package, which of course includes books! To enter, candidates must submit an application and a book report through their foster agency. Zayda, herself, will pick the top five contenders and the board of trustees will approve three grants.

Keep an eye out on Zayda’s Etsy page for a special shirt designed specifically to raise funds for the literacy fund.
